Meet the Founders

  • Deon E. Avery

    CO-FOUNDER

    Deon E. Avery has dedicated her professional career to education since 2007. A graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Baltimore City, Deon grew up in the St. Josephs Community on the west side of the city. She earned her B.A. in English and Spanish from Towson University and an M.A.T. from Johns Hopkins University. She later returned to Towson to complete a certificate of advanced studies in school administration. She is currently studying at the American College of Education to earn her Ed. D in curriculum and instruction. Deon is also currently completing the Secondary AMI Program to earn her 12-18 Diploma in Montessori education. Deon has served as a Spanish teacher and school administrator in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan Region, with a commitment to putting students first in all that she does.

  • Tameshia Lee

    CO-FOUNDER

    Tameshia Lee has dedicated 19 years to teaching in Baltimore County and City, where she grew up and graduated from Western High School. Tameshia earned a B.S. in Biology from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and a M.A.T. from Coppin State University. She served as a research scientist for four years before becoming an educator. Tameshia combines her expertise in food nutrition and science to educate her community on reading nutrition labels and making healthy food choices, especially in food-insecure neighborhoods. As Family Community Engagement Liaison and Green Team advisor at her school, Tameshia fosters community ties, securing grants for projects like an Outdoor Learning Classroom with a vegetable garden. She continues to live and work in Baltimore City, committed to serving her community.
